Lighting will play an important aspect, as will using the ground contours that lead on from this area of the garden. About one acre will be put down to new tree planting and ground contouring, with native planting to encourage wildlife.

Congresbury Nr Bristol
Budget £85,000
One acre garden for a new five bedroom house. Family home with two teenagers aged 15 and 17, plus two dogs etc. A level site, but open to the elements and therefore boundary planting is vitally important. It is proposed to use new hedges from a company called Living walls at Andover ( www.living-walls.co.uk ) to provide an instant effect. A large patio area with built in lighting and sound system is required, with an option of a home cinema screen as well. All year round colour planting, with semi mature trees is required, as well as an area to grow fruit and veg.
Currently instructed to detailed design.
Basingstoke
Budget £450,000 plus
Located on the outskirts of Basingstoke, this 6 acre garden to be surrounds a recently refurbished six bedroom property. The garden will be divided up into a series of five interlinking rooms each with a clearly defined theme and colour format. The home will only be used for five months of the year and therefore all planting, colour, fragrance and interest is totally based around that time period.
This is effectively a start from scratch and will require over four weeks to undertake land formation and contours, as well as planting over 100 trees at 7m plus in height. This garden will take over a year to construct and Garden Estate Management ( www.g-e-m.co.uk ) will be retained for the ongoing development of the garden for the years ahead.
Currently instructed on full service.
Cheltenham
Budget £45,000 plus
A town house with a small rear garden, but with the added dimension of a roof garden. Owned by a professional couple, their time is limited in the garden and even more so for actually working in it. Therefore, importance has been placed on hard landscape features, using containers that are individually watered by a built-in irrigation system.
The use of lighting, mirrors, water and sculptures, plus the installation of a fibre optic lighting system within the roof garden, will make this a different garden from the surrounding properties, yet with careful boundary planting will also provide privacy and security. Contract grown herbs from Jekka's Herb Farm ( www.jekkasherbfarm.com ) will be located on the roof garden close to the kitchen area.
Currently instructed on full service.
Southern France
Budget Ongoing
Property bought by two city professionals as their intended retirement home.
This one and a half acre garden has outstanding views towards the Mediterranean and is located about 500ft above sea level. Using the existing features of the garden of boundary walls and mature olive and pine trees, this garden is intended to be low on maintenance and primarily for entertainment. There is an existing swimming pool which is enclosed by a boundary wall for safety, with its own patio and barbeque area beyond.
Therefore with an extensive network of pathways linking swimming pool to house, this garden will primarily be more hard landscape, with an irrigation system and simplistic planting.
Currently instructed on landscape masterplan and consultancy.
